LOCAL HISTORIC ROUTE 66 ATTRACTIONS (Click on attraction title for google map link)
- Route 66 Wayside/Veterans Memorial Park: Just south of the Interstate 55 entrance/exit (mile marker 105) on Business 55 (Sherman Boulevard) is Wayside Park. It is one of the last preserved areas used by Route 66 travelers to rest. Amenities here include a small picnic area, a stretch of the Route 66 Mother Road.
- The Double H Bar: was built in 1946 with handmade limestone concrete blocks and is adjacent to Route 66 Park. The Double has been serving Route 66 travelers ever since it was established.
- Fairlane Diner: A family-owned restaurant along old Route 66 in Sherman with a 50's decor serving lunch and dinner. Great food and ice cream for travelers to stop and enjoy.
- Carpenter Park Route 66 Pavement: An early stretch of early Route 66 (1926-1936) is abandoned to the east of the park. Now listed on the National Register for Historic Places, the curbed concrete provides a look into the past of the Mother Road’s rich history. The two lanes are still visible to visitors, and stretch past scenic bluffs carved by the Sangamon River.
